What is Meditation?

Meditation is neither mystical nor mysterious. In fact, we slip into meditative states regularly throughout the day. It is that open, receptive and heightened state where we experience a sense of stillness and timelessness.  When made simple, meditation can be practiced by anyone with desire, patience and commitment. There are many techniques, all of them lead you to focus attention in a non-judgmental way and draw the mind away from constant, ruminating thoughts. 
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the art and practice of paying attention to the ever-unfolding present moment. Mindfulness as a meditative practice stems from traditional Buddhist practices — it is at the heart of Buddhism in all its forms. Yet its essence is universal, and one does not have to follow Buddhism to discover value in this timeless practice.

What is Mindful Eating?

Most of us eat mindlessly. We are distracted, caught in repetitive and negative self-talk, and even multi-task as we eat.  Studies show that this can contribute to digestive distress. In addition, when we are unconscious, we are unable to accurately assess hunger and fullness, which contributes to being overweight. Eating mindfully means eating with awareness, not just awareness of what foods are on our plate, but more so the awareness of the experience of eating itself. 
Mindful eating is being present, moment by moment, with every sensation, such as chewing, tasting, and swallowing.

It is possible to learn to truly savor the experience of eating. When we pay attention to the taste of food and the sensations
​of eating, we notice rich and wonderful aspects of food, as well as become aware of how much we put into our bodies.
