Bereavement

Pet Loss

Grieving is natural. Support is here.

The bond between humans and their animal companions is a lifelong commitment based in selfless caring. It is the type of relationship that is deep, pure and stems from love without conditions, judgment, or expectations.

The heartbreak of losing a beloved pet leaves us wracked with sadness and despair. A Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist is a helping professional who is trained to understand the unique symptoms of pet loss grief. As a Certified Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist, Michele knows how to offer the right type and amount of support as you begin to heal.

Why is losing a pet so hard?

Most pet parents experience some guilt or remorse no matter the circumstances of their loss. These feelings are common but they can be hard to cope with. In some extreme cases, pet parents experience some degree of trauma, including flashbacks, nightmares and obsessions, which can be difficult to manage on their own.

Society does not readily acknowledge and validate pet loss the way it does the loss of a human loved one. When pet parents mourn, their loss is often considered less significant than a human loss, which makes it all the more difficult for people to fully recognize the depth of their pain. It can hinder or delay the natural and normal grieving process.

“When my 11-year-old terrier died, the shock to my system caused me to reflect upon the larger meaning and hidden lessons woven into death.

From that painful personal experience was born the desire to help others through the grieving of their pets. In 2020, I was pleased to complete extensive certification training as a Pet Loss Bereavement Specialist so I can bring my knowledge and experience to support you during this tender time.”
